Get Involved

Get Involved with the PTA!

The PTA is always looking for volunteers and there are many ways that you can help.  Volunteering can be at day or at night, during the week or on weekends, and for as little as one hour or as many as you can fit.  There’s no one-size-fits-all approach – we are just happy to have you on our team!

Here are some ways you can volunteer:

  1. Join our Volunteer Committee. We ask parents on our Volunteer Committee to commit to just 1-2 hours of time per school year (although we’ll happily take more time if you have it!).  You will get first crack at signing up to volunteer for events and it’s a great way to get a flavor for what the PTA does each year.  Email the PTA at  to sign-up.
  2. Volunteer for a specific event. Does one of our events look like fun to you?  Email the Event Lead (you can find a list of them here) and they’ll make sure to reach out to you at the appropriate time.
  3. Take on a PTA job. There are a whole range of PTA roles, from being in charge of the school sign to communicating with parents to running the Book Fair.  Email PTA President Anne Wilson at if you’re interested in taking on a leadership role with the PTA.
  4. Don’t have time to volunteer? There are lots of other ways to get involved.  Have a local business? Advertise in our school directory.  Work in the hospitality industry? Host a parent get-together at your place of business or consider donating or discounting services for our events.  Work with an in-demand service or item?  Donate something for bidding at our auction!  Reach out to the PTA at  if you’d like to talk more about these alternate ways to get involved!

You can also be involved directly with your child’s class with these opportunities:

  • be a room parent for your child's class (you can sign-up for this at Open House and Back-To-School Night)
  • volunteer in your child's classroom (contact your child's teacher about this)
  • volunteer at lunch and recess (no notice is required to do this, just sign in at the office)

Please note that all volunteers must complete the MCPS "Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect" training located here.

Bus and Recess Volunteers

Every year, the PTA helps with loading and unloading our children on the bus in the first few days of school, so that our little ones get to where they need to be before they've learned their new routine. We also always welcome volunteers to help out at lunch and recess. Please note all parents must complete MCPS Child Abuse and Neglect Training. Link to that training is located here.

If you are interested in volunteering, please use our Sign-Up Genius sheets to take a shift or shifts.  Thank you for your help in this important back-to-school week!
